Often people experience personal troubles and they do not know to whom to turn for help or guidance.  As an experienced Systemic and Family Psychotherapist, I provide confidential private psychotherapy for emotional or psychological distress and for relationship difficulties.

Trauma is a very common problem.  Most of us have suffered traumatic events at some point in our lives.  Sometimes these are so severe that they result in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with symptoms such as memory loss, flashbacks, loss of confidence, avoidance, numbed responses, irritability and hyper-vigilance.

Although much trauma does not result in full-blown PTSD, it can nevertheless have significant negative effects on the person who suffers it.

EMDR is one of only two treatments approved for PTSD by NICE (the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence), the body with responsibility for overseeing and authorising treatments in the NHS.

EMDR has a very good evidence base as a treatment for trauma and a number of associated disorders.  Conditions it may be used to treat include:

single trauma

complex trauma

phobia

anxiety

excessive grief

I use EMDR either as a stand-alone treatment for a specific issue or as an integral phase in longer-term psychotherapy.
